Prof. Manish Kiran is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at Queen Mary’s Hospital in London and Darent Valley Hospital in Kent, United Kingdom. He is the Clinical Orthopaedic Lead for Trauma services at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust, and the Quality Improvement Site Lead at King’s College London. He was a Team Doctor working with British Judo’s national and Olympic teams.
He graduated from the prestigious Madras Medical College and completed M.S. (Orthopaedics) from SCB Medical College, Cuttack, followed by his Diplomate in Orthopaedics from the National Board of Examinations in India. He completed his orthopaedic training in the UK, where he was awarded the Ian Smillie Award for Academic Excellence during his Masters course, MCh (Orth), at the University of Dundee, and went on to complete FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedics) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He completed lower limb arthroplasty, arthroscopy, and complex trauma fellowships at various world-renowned centres in the UK and Europe, and has previously worked as a Consultant at the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Trust and University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Trust.
He specializes in complex Revision Hip and Knee surgery and Sports Knee surgery, with a keen interest in complex trauma, enhanced recovery, and rehabilitation.
He performs ‘Clipless’ Total Hip and Knee replacements — reducing the risk of infection and improving patient experience.
He is a reputed researcher with over 40 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and has delivered over 50 invited lectures and presentations at national and international conferences. He has also written several book chapters and a book on Elbow Arthroplasty.
He has a keen interest in training the next generation of Orthopaedic Surgeons in the UK and in India. He is a Trustee of the British Indian Orthopaedic Society and works across both countries to fulfil this vision. He regularly teaches undergraduate and postgraduate students at various universities, including the University of Dundee, Canterbury Christ Church University, and Kent and Medway Medical School, and teaches on various FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedics) preparatory courses. He is an examiner at the University of Dundee, University of Liverpool, and the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
